DIY Painted Snowman Shutter

I love large decorations around my house and this Snowman Shutter has become a favorite of mine. It sits in the foyer so anyone can see it as they enter my house and immediately sets a happy tone. The snowman was very easy to paint and the shutter was a unique canvas.

Needed:
Shutter (any size will do, I used the plastic ones that can be found at garage sales)
Various paints
3 black buttons
Clear Acrylic Spray

I started by cleaning the shutters and bleaching them in the bathtub for a few hours. I also removed the screws and scraped off the calking from when it was attached to a house.

I wanted to use the negative space as the Snowman so that I didn't have to paint all the white. I started with a dark blue and outlined my snowman and hat.

Once I had the snowman laid out it was easy to decorate the snowman with his nose, face, and buttons. I painted the hat and flowers. This year when I pull out the decorations I plan on adding a 3D flower, I think it would look better. Last I added a few fun snowflakes and white drops. I chose not to add a scarf but you could easily do so.
